Amy's POV

I listened thoughtfully to the chirping and tweeting birds singing in the trees around me as I walked down a small dirt path. Glancing to my left I saw the setting sun; only half still visible in the sky. It was vibrant as it turned the sky around it into magnificent colors such as deep oranges, rose pinks and blood reds. I smiled, for I was perfectly content at the moment and seemed that now nothing could ruin this day.

I was walking home from my best friends house, the little, playful rabbit, Cream after a day of hanging out. We'd done an array of fun things, from experimenting recipes in the kitchen to me oozing my feelings for a certain blue hedgehog to Cream. I sighed. She was such a good friend, listening to me whenever I went on about my hero Sonic. I knew that sometimes she wasn't always into the conversation, (for we talked about this a lot) but she listened and always tried to give me advice. Most of the time I took it and tried putting it to use, but every time Sonic always found a way out of my grasp. Now thinking of all my tried and failed attempts to catch him put a weight on my shoulders that I couldn't remove. Part of me questioned my sanity for still chasing after him, but my love for Sonic always overruled it and put my doubting side back into silence.

I tried to shake off my depressing thoughts by thinking of my times with Sonic on a good day, when occasionally he was nice to me. I started to skip, hoping that my depressing thoughts would be shaken off. I had about three more miles to walk to my house, and judging by the beauty of the evening, I could care less about the walk. I was delighted to be out on a night like this. If only, well, Sonic were here to share it with me.... This immediately brought me down again and I scolded myself, dismissing the thoughts pf him once. I tried focusing my attention on my surroundings. The sunset so perfect, the birds so happy, the air so warm…. My thoughts were rudely interrupted by the landing of a big drop of water on my nose. I stopped skipping and put a hand to my nose to wipe away the wetness. Another drop hit my hand. I looked up at the sky with disbelief on my face. More raindrops fell down on me. To my demise, the night had decided to disrupt the peace, and several dark clouds were rolling in. I scowled, realizing that my pleasant evening was taking a turn for the worse. The rain was not going to stop anytime soon, and was growing steadier if anything. The drops were large and cold and splashed down on my head. It began to pour and I had no way out of the rain. The clouds had moved in so much now that any trace of the sunset was gone, and the darkness came early. I quickened my pace.

As rain water began to build up, the path in front of me became slick and muddy. I was forced to slow my pace as to not slip and fall. By this time I had become soaked; my clothes and quills were dripping wet. Above all emotions that I was feeling right now, annoyance was one of the most prominent. Why did this rain have to come along and ruin my evening? My fanaticizing of Sonic, my fun time had with Cream? I tried to think of anyone that I knew that lived around here. I wasn't going to try and make it back to my own house, but Cream's house was almost two miles away now. I knew there was someone who lived between me and her, and who was it? Sonic. Of course it had to be Sonic. I cursed silently; my annoyance was growing. My heart started to race as I thought of showing up at his door like this. 'Well, it was going to have to do' I thought as a boom of thunder sounded far off. His house should only be a little bit from here. I'd walked past it plenty of times on my way to Cream's. I quickened my pace and sure enough, Sonic the Hedgehog's small, dark brown house came into my view. I had to admit I was relieved to have somewhere to go, but my stress levels would be running high, being so near to my crush. I hurried to get to his small cottage as the rain only seemed to increase its intensity. Through the dark and the downpour, I could glimpse light coming from the windows and I thanked the Chaos that he was home. My feet moved faster and I hoped I could make it out of this rain before I caught a cold.

Sonic's POV

I sat at my kitchen table reading the latest issue of Speed Nation, one of the few things I found interest in sitting down to look over. I still didn't get why Tails didn't like to read it; I'd tried to get him too plenty of times. He always seemed to follow in my footsteps with these kind of things. As I read, silence enveloped my house, well except for one incessant noise. The constant rumbling of rain on the roof. I got up and walked to the window to look out at the tears of the clouds overhead that were pouring down upon everything outside. I shivered; I simply detested the rain, and anything water, though I was never really sure why, it just didn't ever appeal to me. I went to the kitchen and put a pot of water on the stove to boil. I went to the cupboard and took out a mug, proceeding to rip open a packet of hot chocolate mix and pour it into the mug. I felt the need to maintain the cozy atmosphere of this rainy Saturday night. I was making my way back to the table, but before I sat down a new sound echoed through the house. A knock at the door. I zipped to the door and looked out through the peephole. I reached over to turn on the porch light, but before I did, there was a clap of thunder then a flash of lightening that lit up the sky. Through the peephole I saw someone jump. The pink, green-eyed, shivering hedgehog that was no doubt Amy Rose. I reached for the door handle.

Amy's POV

I stood at his doorstep waiting for the door to open. From behind me came another loud clap of thunder than a flash of lightening; way closer than before, making me jump. I was utterly terrified right now and I was getting impatient and really cold.
"Come on…. Hurry up." I muttered under my breath while rubbing my bare arms to stay warm. Finally the door started to open and I struggled to retain the urge to barge through into the warmth that was now seeping through from the open space.

Sonic stood there in the doorway, a worried look on his face. Immediately I changed my features to a pleading look.
"Sonic! I'm so glad you're home!"
"Yeah Amy, what's up?" he asked. I don't really think he got my situation at the moment.
"Can I please come in?" I asked quickly.
"Um, yeah sure." Sonic replied and stood aside in the doorway so that I could rush inside. He shut the door and at once I was warmer now that the cold wind and rain was no longer beating at me from every side.
"Are you all right Amy?" Sonic asked, worry in his voice. He was probably wondering why I was out in this weather with no coat or anything to keep myself dry and warm. Right now I was kind of a mess.
"Huh? Yeah, yeah. I'll be fine. Thank you Sonic." I said. Sonic wasn't convinced as he watched a compulsive shiver run through my body.
"Amy, why don't you sit down… I'll get you a towel." Sonic left immediately and I turned and looked at the living room. There was a cozy looking sofa against the wall, across from a fireplace that was unlit. At the front of the room was a bay window, with a cushioned window seat in front of it. I looked down at my clothes. I didn't really want to sit down on his couch, seeing as I was dripping wet. By then Sonic had returned with the towel and handed it to me. I took it graciously and wrapped it around my self, trying to absorb as much water as I could from my clothes.
"So what brings you here on this rainy night Amy?" Sonic asked a hint of playfulness in his voice. I smiled, noticing the goofy formality he added to the question. It was just Sonic being Sonic; but I could tell he was genuinely worried as well.
"W-w-well, I was walking home f-ffrom Cream's house and it ww-was a p-pperfect evening as you m-may have noticed." I started, shivers racking my body as I spoke. "B-BBut then the sun went away so quickly and there were ss-suddenly those d-d-dark rain clouds. My house is almost ttthree miles f-ffrom here, and I got stuck in this s-s-t-torm with no where to go, b-bu-ut here. You're the closest one t-tto where I was." Shivers kept interrupting my speech as I tried to explain. Sonic now looked as though he understood.
"Oh, well, let's hope that this storm clears up soon so I can take you home." Sonic said. But as he glanced out the window the fuss that nature was conjuring up, his expression was of the utmost dread. I just nodded in agreement. I moved to the couch, making sure to sit on the towel, and tried to calm my shivers. I was kind of hoping that Sonic would light the fire; it would make me so much warmer. Sonic disappeared into the kitchen.

Slowly I reached down and started to take off my boots which were sopping with water. My hands kept shaking and my gloves were wet too, making it hard to remove them. I finally just gave up on trying to get the boots off and went to work on my gloves first. I used my teeth to pull them off, and then I wiped my wet hands on the towel. Then when I tried my boots again it was easier and I managed to get them off, along with my heavy wet socks. I looked at my toes; they were wrinkled like prunes and slightly numb.

Sonic came back into the room and saw me, trying to massage some life back into my feet and seemed to start and contemplate what he should do.
"Um, Amy? Do you want me to start a fire maybe?" he asked. I nodded quickly, for this was the exact question that I'd been hoping to hear. He moved to the fire at only speeds Sonic could; zipping back and forth from what was probably his garage, and his kitchen, carrying wood and matches. Within five minutes there was a small fire starting in the grate. Almost exactly when he had finished the fire a high whistle came from the kitchen. He jumped in surprise, and turned to look at me, watching him from the couch.
"I was making some hot chocolate before you got here. Do you... do you want some?" he asked rather shyly. I nodded again and he left into the kitchen. I got up and moved to sit on the hearth with my back at the growing warm from the fire. My thoughts were starting to go haywire. It was how I always felt around him. Because, for one thing I was in Sonic the Hedgehog's house, all alone with him. I was with the love of my life and I was being presented with the opportunity of a lifetime! Right now though, Sonic seemed almost shy around me. He was tentative, I noticed, and so far he was not always sure what to say. It was probably because I was keeping my behavior under control I decided before I arrived. Sonic was so used to me chasing after him that when I was sitting motionless on his couch, he must not be sure what to do. I smiled, because I did want to get up and give him a big hug, and have his warmth around me,  but I was keeping my emotions under control; I was going to wait this one out. I didn't want Sonic going to his room and locking the door....

Sonic came back into the room now with two big mugs of steaming hot chocolate. I smiled hugely when he handed it to me. Then, to my surprise he sat down beside me and started to quietly drink his. I looked down at the mug. Neatly swirled on top of the drink was whipped cream, with small chocolate sprinkles. Silently I acknowledged how sweet the gesture was.
"Thanks." I said quietly and started to drink. The hot chocolate was delicious and though I had planned to drink it slowly, it was so good that I couldn't help chugging it until it was halfway empty. Sonic noticed and chuckled. I blushed and smiled.
"It's good!" I said. Sonic grinned.
"Thanks! I hope you know that it's just the package kind though." I smiled again. He could be so cute sometimes.
"Well, I should talk to Vanilla for you! She makes her own mix and it's delicious."
"That's great, you do that." Sonic replied smiling. I returned it and just like that, our small spark of conversation died. We both looked out the window at the incessant rain. I sighed, as did Sonic.
"It doesn't look like it's going to let up does it?" I asked quietly. Sonic shook his head. I realized that it sure didn't look like I was going to be going home anytime soon either; it was almost completely dark out now.
"Sonic?"
"Hmm?"
"Um, well, seeing as the storm isn't letting up…" I paused, twiddling my thumbs nervously. "…Can, I, well, stay here tonight?" Sonic didn't answer right away, still looking out at the rain. "I'll sleep on the couch, and I'll leave in the morning right away." I added quickly. Slowly I heard him sigh.
"Well, I guess so Amy. It's up to you. And I s'pose it's your only option now..." Sonic said and I watched as he forced a fake smile. Then he got up and started to walk back towards the kitchen. I reached out and grabbed his wrist. I felt him jump at my touch.
"Sonic, I'm sorry. I know that you don't want me here." I said quickly. I looked away, embarrassed when I saw the surprise on his face. But he didn't try and pull away from my grasp, as I expected, but stood there for a few moments. Finally he spoke.
"Ames…. I never said I didn't want you here…"
"It's ok Sonic, you don't have to say that." I let go of his wrist. I didn't look up at his face, but it didn't matter; I heard his footsteps as he left the room. I buried my face in my hands, trying to suppress tears. I didn't know how I was going to manage a night here.

Sonic's POV

I walked into the kitchen and set my empty hot chocolate mug in the sink. I leaned against the counter and closed my eyes. Why did this have to be so complicated, I asked myself? I was fine with Amy being here; I didn't want her thinking she was unwelcome… thankfully she hadn't tried any of her usual stuff when she saw me. I told myself not to worry; she would be gone in the morning. I took a different exit out of the kitchen, and down the hall to get a pillow and a blanket from the closet to put on the couch for her. I walked back down the hall, passing a table. A picture caught my eye. In the frame was an old picture, it was of Amy hugging me. I was trying to escape the hug but there was a laugh on my face as I looked at Amy. I put the picture face down and went back into the living room. Before I went into the room though, I stopped. Aside from the rain beating on the roof and the quiet crackling of the fire, there was another sound. I listened to the small sobs of the pink hedgehog on the couch; and her quiet whimpers reached my ears like pins. The guilt started to overcome me. I totally regretted ever giving her the idea that I didn't want her here. Not wanting to disturb her, I set the pillow and blanket down on the ground next to the entrance, then turned and went to my room for the night.

Sometime later that night, something woke me. It could have been the rain, I didn't ponder it. I strained my ears into the dark. Suddenly a cry broke the silence.
"SONIC! SONIC, NO!" the voice screamed.
"Amy!" I said aloud and quickly shot out of bed and ran down the stairs, taking the steps three at a time. I got into the living room and quickly turned on a lamp.
"SONIC! HELP! SOMEBODY!" Amy cried again. She was having a fit, thrashing at the blanket, and turning violently. I went to her side quickly and tried to shake her awake.
"Amy, Amy! Everything's fine Ames, I'm right here…" I said to her. Her movement slowed and then her eyes started to open. She awoke and looked up at me. Suddenly tears welled up in her jade green eyes and she grabbed me and pulled me into a tight, warm hug.
"Oh Sonic… I'm so glad you're ok…" I tentatively hugged her back, trying to comfort her. Her body was shaking with sobs and fear.
"Amy, Amy, what happened?" I asked quietly.
"Oh Sonic. I had the worst nightmare…" she said and let go of me to look me in the eyes. Her face was slightly pale and her eyes were shiny and scared.
"Tell me what happened." I said. She looked into my eyes for a few moments, and then started.
"Well, you were on one of your missions against Dr. Eggman. Tails and I were standing nearby watching. You... you were winning at first, but then Eggman had a trick. He pulled a trick and you didn't see it coming. It was weird; everything after you'd been fooled was different. The whole place was on fire, and Tails. Tails was gone... and I was all alone..." Amy's voice broke and she started to cry again. I hugged her, hoping my comfort would calm her.
"It's ok Amy, it wasn't real… It's OK, I'm right here. Can you tell me what happened after that?" I asked quietly. She was hugging me still, her face buried in my chest. Her body, I noticed, felt so warm against mine. She whispered when she spoke next.
"His trick was a robot. It was stronger than you. You were powerless to defend yourself, and it picked you up. I tried to help. I was doing everything I could, but the robot, it just squeezed you tighter and tighter, and I knew that you weren't going to survive. I was calling for help… If, if you wouldn't have woken me, I think, I think that you would've died…" Amy sniffled and took a deep breath.
"I was so scared Sonic…"
"It's alright Ames, I'm here…" I whispered, and we both fell silent as I embraced her, shushing her comfortingly. The rain continued to fall outside and I began to wonder why I was still holding Amy though her tears had practically stopped, I wanted to let go but, I didn't. Finally Amy took a deep breath and let go of me. She wiped the remaining tears from her eyes and looked up at me. All at once I was caught up in them. Her deep, green, beautiful eyes…
"There you go Ames... you'll always be strong."
She smiled and looked down, breaking my gaze.
"I should let you get to bed Sonic... Thank you again." She said, but the words didn't completely register in my head.
"Uh, yeah..." I stuttered "Like I said, it's fine Amy."
She smiled and I found my self falling deeper into her eyes. Why had I never noticed her this much before? She was so beautiful, and right in front of me all along. A part of me was questioning my sanity, telling me that I wasn't thinking straight because of the lateness of the night, but Amy's eyes, and her glowing face was beckoning me.
"Sonic? Are you all right? You can go to bed now." Amy said now, her face wrinkling in confusion but also turning pink under my stare. I brought myself back down to earth.
"Uh, yeah, yeah. Are you sure there's nothing else I can do? Like, get you some water or something?" I asked, subconsciously hoping that she'd say yes, giving me an excuse to return to her side for a few more minutes.

Amy's POV

I looked at Sonic, still slightly trembling from my terrifying nightmare. He was looking back at me, with a funny expression on his face, one that I'd never seen him wear before. I looked into his impossible green eyes, and my insides melted for this wonderful person that I had all to my self for these short moments.
"Sonic? Are you all right? You can go to bed now." I said quietly. Suddenly as if someone flicked a light switch, his face went back to normal and he replied.
"Uh, yeah, yeah. Are you sure there's nothing else I can do? Like, get you some water or something?" Now that he mentioned it, I was pretty thirsty, and my stomach ached for some food. But I didn't want to over-use his hospitality.
"I guess I'd want a glass of water, sure." I smiled at him, and slowly he smiled back, and then zipped out of the room. As soon as he'd left I sighed deeply. I told myself that Sonic's behavior was just because he was worried and tired. It was just like anyone would be. I tried to calm my swirling emotions, listening to the rain to steady myself. Sonic came back into the room and handed me the glass. I took it eagerly and started to drink. Sonic watched me curiously as I drained the glass. When I was finished I smiled at him thankfully, not just for this, but all he'd done for me in the past few hours.
"Thank you."
Sonic just nodded. I looked into his eyes and saw what I thought was something. A sort of longing. It confused me.
"Sonic?"
"Yes?" he replied.
"Can you, well, stay here for a few minutes? Just until I fall asleep again?"
"Sure Ames." He said, an answer I didn't expect to hear. I moved up into a sitting position as he sat down next to me. I wanted to lean over and rest my head onto his shoulder, but I was afraid of what he would do if I did. We sat in silence, listening to the rain outside. Suddenly there was a huge clap of thunder and then a flash of lightening illuminated the room. I jumped and instinctively grabbed Sonic. He chuckled quietly at my reaction, and didn't bother to move from my grasp. I leaned into him, feeling his warmth. I looked at his face out of the corner of my eye. He was calm, watching me. Then Sonic did something that I didn't expect. He wrapped his arms around me and hugged me close.
"Sonic?" I said timidly. He looked down at me. I looked up into his eyes. I felt my insides melt again, but there was something different. His gaze was also upon me, but it was different than usual. He looked at me with affection and longing. I leaned closer to his face, and he didn't make an attempt to back away; it was almost as if he was in some sort of trance.

Sonic's POV

I was lost. Lost in Amy; everything about her. It was weird how I'd never felt this way before. About anything. The moment from she'd said my name I had been captivated by her, and there was no way out. I was feeling something that I'd never felt before as I gazed at her beautiful face. A warm, longing feeling. One that made me want to lean into her and never let her go. But, something was stopping me. My natural barrier; that wall I'd always felt when she'd come near me. I knew that Amy had always loved me, but my instinct was cautioning me of that consequence of rejection. My muzzle moved closer to her's, and she leaned in too. I watched her. She had the same look of lust in her eyes; what I was feeling for the first time was something that she had been feeling for a long time, I was sure.

Amy's POV

I waited in his arms for him to make a move, but as I noticed, there was a hint of caution in his eyes. It worried me. I almost had him, I could tell. All those years of chasing him had come to this moment. I couldn't lose him now. Then something happened that I would never have thought to factor into the situation. Another huge clap of thunder sounded all around us. I jumped again; right onto Sonic. Our lips touched, awkwardly and unexpected. I fell onto Sonic pushing him down onto the couch, still in his arms. And I was powerless to get off him.

Normal POV

Amy landed on Sonic, their lips touching, and both their eyes widened in surprise. Sonic wasn't displeased but he didn't expect this. He let go of Amy, and she quickly got off.
"I'm so sorry Sonic." She said quickly. "It was an accident, I promise!" she said. Sonic looked at her, stunned. He was at a loss for words at the situation. Amy watched his blank face, and felt her cheeks go hot. She started to get up and head towards the front door. Sonic found his voice.
"Wait Amy!" he cried. "Ames!" he said again and ran to block the doorway.
"It's ok Ames, I know it was an accident, I forgive you."
"Thank you Sonic, but I really should go now." Amy said hurriedly, fighting tears. She tried to push Sonic out of the way, but he would budge.
"Don't go Amy; it's fine, I promise. In fact, I... I didn't really mind." Amy's ears perked up, and she looked at him slowly.
"What do you mean Sonic?" she asked.
"Well, for a moment there, it was weird. It was like I, like I saw you for the first time or something. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm... I'm glad you came tonight Ames, and... well—" Sonic was at a loss for words again. He found himself with outstretched hands towards Amy as he spoke. Amy's face was unsure. Finally Sonic made a decision. He stepped forward, closing the gap between him and Amy. Their faces were only inches from each other's and Amy could feel Sonic's breath on her lips. She had no notion to what he was going to do until he did it. His lips touched hers, and this time it was different. Amy felt the spark, as did Sonic. Each found themselves leaning deeper into the kiss, and slowly Sonic edged Amy back into the living room. They stopped in front of the fire, dying in the hearth.
"Ames…"
"Sonic…?"
"I think I learned something new tonight."
"And what is that?"
"That...that...I love you."
"I...I love you too Sonic." Amy whispered still surprised by Sonic's behavior and walked him to the couch.

They kissed again, and continued to until the first rays of light came through the front window after parting the clouds. Amy knew now that that rainstorm didn't ruin her evening, but made it so, so much better.
